About The Position

The Project Engineer supports planning, coordination, and delivery of heavy-civil works on the Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 project. The role partners closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to drive schedule, quality, cost control, and compliance. Responsibilities span submittals, RFIs, procurement, change management, progress/payment, and field support to keep work packages moving safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline
  • Heavy-civil construction background with 8+ years of field/engineering experience; MTA experience is a plus
  • Previous large-scale design build experience, tunnel projects strongly preferred
  • Experience using construction management software (e.g., Procore, e-Builder, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Bluebeam; familiarity with scheduling tools like Primavera P6 is a plus
  • Experience with resource/production monitoring (cost accounting, basic estimating) and construction technology, process systems and structures
  • Ability to identify budget and cost drivers and recommend options to mitigate project delays
  • Knowledge of design-build and alternative delivery methods
  • Familiarity with financial reporting, quantity tracking, and cost coding
  • Working knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management (e.g., Primavera P6 or similar preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to BIM, AutoCAD, or 3D model viewers (e.g., Navisworks) is desirable
  • MTA experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools like Primavera P6 is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, foremen, and field crews on project deliverables and daily execution
  • Process/manage material deliveries; verify quantity/quality and contract compliance
  • Manage and negotiate subcontractor and material purchase orders/contracts in coordination with project leadership
  • Assist in developing, updating, and reporting on the project schedule (e.g., three-week look-aheads; weekly owner/management updates)
  • Coordinate, track, and schedule shop drawings and submittals; maintain a complete, current log (submittals, approvals, re-submittals, transmittals, and dates)
  • Initiate and manage RFIs to resolve design and field issues; distribute responses and track impacts
  • Maintain a high level of involvement in the cost control system, including quantity tracking, coding, and analysis of construction costs
  • Participate in monthly forecasting of revenue and cost accruals; support earned-value/progress reporting
  • Accumulate data and prepare monthly pay estimates; coordinate with accounting on invoicing for materials, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Process and estimate change orders as directed by the Project Manager; document scope, pricing, and schedule effects
  • Review required certificates and permits; confirm compliance prior to work
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and support a safe, compliant work environment; enforce company and site safety policies
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, sequencing, and crew needs to align with schedule and quality requirements
  • Prepare and manage three-week work plans; promptly flag risk elements (production, materials, equipment/process) that could affect budget or schedule and propose mitigations
  • Evaluate daily production against schedule and budget projections to accurately track performance
  • Other duties as assigned to support successful delivery
