About The Position

Merrick & Company is seeking a technical Senior Project Engineer with experience in the design of water and wastewater pipeline, transmission, and interceptor projects to be a key collaborative member of our growing Public Works and water infrastructure team within our water practice. The qualified candidate will lead the design and delivery of small and large-diameter water, stormwater and sanitary wastewater pipelines for municipal and utility clients across Colorado. The position would be primarily focused on our Colorado operations, leading and supporting our municipal pipeline design efforts and based in our Greenwood Village or Denver offices. Typical salary range for this position is $125,000.00 - $169,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Why Join Us? Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of experience in the design of water, stormwater or wastewater pipeline design with at least 2 years focused on large diameter systems.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) in the State of Colorado or the ability to obtain Colorado licensure.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling tools, and Excel-based calculations.
  • Technical writing and communication skills.
  • Public works design experience with Local, State and/or Federal governments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in utility relocations a plus.
  • Success in Business Development and Project Management a plus.
  • Experience with coordination of utilities with utility owners.
  • Working knowledge of StormCAD, Infoworks ICM, and HEC-RAS.
  • Experience with trenchless design packages and rehab strategies.
  • Experience with local Front Range Colorado municipalities.
  • Proposal writing and client development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and delivery of small and large diameter water, stormwater and sanitary wastewater pipelines, including gravity mains, force mains, lift stations and interceptors.
  • Must be capable of directing and managing a multi-discipline team of design engineers or technicians on water and sanitary projects.
  • Develop and stamp plans, profiles, details and construction specifications for small and large-diameter gravity and pressurized pipelines.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling and evaluate alternatives for alignment, materials, and constructability.
  • Lead coordination efforts for other discipline specialists, including survey, trenchless design, geotechnical input, environmental considerations, and other specialties.
  • Prepare construction specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports, and review those provided by others.
  • Conduct condition assessment/rehab evaluations for existing large-diameter assets.
  • Experienced in the design of lift stations, interceptors and pipelines, including hydraulic and structural considerations.
  • Support project planning, scope, schedule, and budget; manage QA/QC reviews.
  • Interface with municipalities, utilities, and permitting agencies; contribute to proposals and presentations.
  • Must be capable of performing independent design tasks; reviewing the designs of others; preparing bid documents, including drawings and specifications; and organizing all drawings, reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables.
  • The successful candidate must possess good interpersonal skills to effectively interface with clients and Local, State, and Federal government agencies and be capable of leading project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications.
