This position oversees and is responsible for completing a variety of professional engineering assignments in the areas of transportation design, traffic operations, utilities and site development. The position also is responsible for project management and mentoring junior level engineers.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant engineering and project management experience
  • Professional Engineer License Required
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the following (but not limited to) engineering references and resources: o Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Standard Specifications for Roads, Bridge, and Municipal Construction o WSDOT Design Manual and Standard Plans o American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design standards o Federal Highway Administration Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) o Transportation Research Board Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) o Federal Guidelines for ADA Design
  • Experience in developing transportation engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Experience drafting and 3D design with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads
  • Experience with Project Management including scope, schedule, budget and quality management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and MS Project
  • Proficiency with BlueBeam Revu
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise the design of roadway design projects including, including trail, sidewalk, erosion control, storm drainage systems, water transmission systems, sewers, earthwork, ADA ramps, pavement overlays, traffic signal systems, illumination, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), channelization, signing, traffic control and maintenance of traffic.
  • Perform and supervise engineering designs including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction and maintenance of traffic details.
  • Prepare engineering documents including Geometric Design Documentation, Basis of Design Documentation, , and Design Deviation Reports.
  • Roadway modeling using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads
  • Preparation of project plans, specification, reports, quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with other team members, professionals and disciplines across multiple offices.
  • Coordinate with clients, utility companies, or government agencies for project delivery.
  • The ability to work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Perform senior level internal quality control to ensure designs, plans and calculations are complete and accurate.
  • Review construction plans, design calculations, and specifications to ensure completeness, accuracy, or conformity to engineering standards or practices.
  • Perform construction support activities including responses to requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews, construction site visits, and design revisions/ management of change.
  • Assist with the management of projects including oversight of scope, schedule, budget and quality. Mentor and train junior level staff.
  • Perform project administrative duties including maintaining records and preparing reports and correspondence.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling.
  • Participate in business development activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
