About The Position

Buffalo Solar Solutions is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Energy who provides technical leadership from day one, translating complex customer and project requirements into clear, buildable, and utility-ready solutions for commercial solar and battery energy storage systems. You lead projects from early technical development through engineering coordination, interconnection, permitting, and readiness for construction—ensuring each solution meets customer objectives while remaining technically sound, financially viable, and executable in the field. You collaborate closely with customers, Sales, Engineering, and Construction to align expectations, protect margin, reduce technical and schedule risk, and deliver projects that are approved the first time and ready to build. Through strong communication, mentorship, and hands-on leadership, you guide teams through utility and AHJ processes and keep multiple projects on track toward Notice to Proceed with confidence. This role exists to prevent problems before they reach the field.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership skills directing and quality-checking cross-functional technical work
  • Experience managing multiple active projects and strict submission deadlines
  • Hands-on experience with utility interconnection and permitting through approval/PTO
  • Ability to review electrical/PV drawings for accuracy and constructability
  • Experience coordinating with utilities, AHJs, fire departments, and engineers of record

Nice To Haves

  • solar + battery (BESS) experience
  • familiarity with NEC/fire codes
  • NABCEP certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical preconstruction from contract through NTP across multiple projects
  • Direct and coordinate engineering, interconnection, permitting, and site assessment efforts
  • Review and approve utility and AHJ submissions before external filing
  • Ensure applications are complete, accurate, and approved on first submission
  • Interpret utility studies and define required design or scope changes
  • Guide teams through reviewer comments and evolving requirements
  • Identify risks early and drive corrective action
  • Deliver a clean, build-ready technical handoff to Construction
