Job Summary The Project Director oversees the day-to-day operations of renewable energy projects, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance. This role involves strategic planning, performance management, budget oversight, and team leadership. Responsibilities include managing relationships with vendors and contractors, monitoring project performance, and implementing new technologies. The Project Director contributes to business development and the ongoing development of the Company’s capability to compete in the marketplace. The Project Director works closely with and communicates openly with the Vice President / Market Leader to ensure the success of the business unit. The Project Director must be able to travel to projects approximately 50% of the time.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and writing, especially in providing written and oral instructions to employees and in communicating with clients, architects, and subcontractors.

  • Must have ability to read and comprehend technical and statistical data and interpret legal documents.
  • Ability to lead large groups of personnel and to accomplish desired results through subordinate levels of management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience managing and directing a team, 10 or more years of experience using Utility Scale, commercial solar design, strong knowledge of electrical principles, low and medium voltage distribution design, protection and relaying design, SCADA design; familiar with a variety of solar equipment and balance of systems for the proper design of PV systems; proficient in Helioscope, PV Syst, AutoCAD 2D and 3D or Revit, proficient in MS Office Suite; excellent communication, strategic thinking and analytical skills, impeccable attention to detail, strong sense of ownership, excellent time management skills; able to work independently with minimal supervision; able and willing to collaborate with the team.
  • Should have experience with integrating engineering modeling with online MRP/ERP systems to create and validate sock-keeping units (SKU's), writing detailed and accurate support documentation (e.g., QC checklist, install guide, equipment commissioning guide), create design and permitting packages; participation in the development, design, QA/QC and implementation of PV systems, collaborate with utility engineers in the interconnection process

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC) contractors, ensuring contractual, safety, quality, schedule, and cost adherence.
  • Lead and support self-perform construction scopes including civil, electrical, mechanical, and related field operations.
  • Oversee multiple large-scale projects concurrently, integrating Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, and Water scopes.
  • Manage project P&L, feasibility, budgeting, and financial offers, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards (OSHA), environmental regulations, permits, and quality benchmarks.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure strict adherence to all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements
  • Provide expertise in Medium/High Voltage systems, grid interconnections, PV, BESS, or Wind.
  • Secure permits, monitor adherence to local/national laws, ensure environmental standards are met, and manage interconnection requirements with utilities.
  • Oversee implementation of project quality control programs to ensure work meets contractual, code, and engineering standards
  • Ensure full compliance with prevailing wage, certified payroll, and labor compliance requirements (federal, state, and local)
  • Oversee compliance with Davis-Bacon, project labor agreements (PLAs), and other labor-related contractual obligations as applicable
  • Coordinate with compliance, HR, and payroll teams to ensure accurate reporting and documentation
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks (technical, financial, environmental, regulatory).
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting, and ensuring effective cost management and resource utilization.
  • Review of project bids, contract development and negotiation, invoice review and approval, and timely collection of accounts receivables.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive QA/QC programs, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and regulations.
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle, from planning and execution to closeout, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Assist with business development efforts, including expanding services with existing clients and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Ensure work complies with internal standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements, minimizing rework and claims.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a primary point of contact for project-related issues.
  • Support and interface with business unit management in reviewing the preparation of proposals and contracts in areas specific to cost and benchmark to previous proposals with consistent deliverables.
  • Manage personnel and provide an environment for the development and professional advancement of staff members, including training and development opportunities, and timely performance feedback.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and directed by a supervisor or other authorized person.
