About The Position

This position supports NEA’s strategic objective of focusing the energy and resources of its 3 million members on promoting public confidence in public education by providing professional expertise in the Teacher Quality (TQ) department in the NEA’s Center for Professional Excellence & Student Learning (CPESL). The essential functions of this position include identifying, developing, modifying, implementing, and/or improving NEA’s Digital Professional Learning Program. The position will collaborate with staff within and outside the Center for Professional Excellence and Student Learning to manage the identification, development, implementation, and revision of digital professional learning products. Knowledge of teaching and learning, teacher quality, school quality, education improvement, professional learning, coaching skills, and various digital professional learning tools required (e.g. Learning Management System (LMS), micro-credentials, blended learning, webinars). The incumbent will work to build further capacity within NEA systems, professional learning organizing, NEA affiliates, and NEA member needs and interests. The work requires knowledge of initiative, inquiry, and collaboration throughout the NEA enterprise and is accomplished under the leadership of the Associate Director of the Teacher Quality department. To carry out these responsibilities, the incumbent uses a laptop, a variety of NEA-endorsed technology (MS Office tools), and travels frequently. This position is a DC-based position with NEA's headquarters building serving as the central workplace. Individuals who are hired for certain positions may request approval for telework in accordance with the policies and guidelines for the staff unit to which the position is assigned. Requirements

  • An advanced degree (Master's degree or Doctorate) in Education, Public Policy, or other discipline related to the position preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge or skills may be obtained.
  • Experience using adult learning theory to develop and/or deliver effective, engaging, and research-based training, presentations, and resources for education professionals; and knowledge and use of improvement science.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic activities that advance high standards for the teaching profession at the national, state, and local-level.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and promoting teacher quality programs, as well as strategies for their implementation in states and school districts.
  • Proven expertise in developing and implementing cooperative partnerships with state affiliates and other key organizations to implement the accreditation recommendations and for promoting high standards for teacher certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and high-level skills in writing, editing, proofreading, research, and/or policy analysis pertaining to education.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively toward organizational objectives.
  • Skill and experience in working independently and within a team environment to implement educational programs.
