About The Position

Thompson Engineering is searching for a Senior Program Manager of Laboratory Operations to lead and oversee laboratory performance, quality standards, and operational consistency across all company laboratory facilities. This position will be responsible for ensuring quality, operational efficiency, and standardized procedures across Thompson Engineering's laboratories, both current and future. In addition to laboratory program oversight, this role will serve as a Nuclear Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technical Lead , supporting nuclear market initiatives and contributing to business development efforts. The position will play a key role in strengthening laboratory services, expanding technical capabilities, and supporting strategic growth across Thompson Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 10–15+ years of experience in geotechnical laboratory testing, construction materials testing (CMT), or laboratory program management.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures for soil, concrete, asphalt, and construction materials
  • Experience managing or coordinating operations across multiple laboratory locations
  • Familiarity with laboratory accreditation programs and quality management systems.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting nuclear geotechnical or nuclear construction materials testing programs
  • Experience with laboratory accreditation programs (e.g., AASHTO, ASTM, CCRL, or similar standards)
  • Demonstrated success in technical leadership and business development support within engineering consulting environments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations, performance, and quality standards across all Thompson Engineering laboratories.
  • Ensure consistency in laboratory testing procedures, reporting standards, and operational practices.
  • Coordinate with laboratory managers and technical staff to maintain efficient and effective laboratory operations.
  • Support the planning, development, and integration of new laboratory locations as the company expands.
  • Monitor laboratory performance metrics and implement improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, testing protocols, and accreditation requirements.
  • Promote standardized laboratory procedures across all locations to ensure consistency and reliability of test results.
  • Support quality control initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the laboratory network.
  • Provide technical guidance related to geotechnical and construction materials laboratory testing.
  • Serve as a technical resource for nuclear geotechnical and construction materials testing programs.
  • Provide technical leadership for nuclear-related laboratory testing requirements and procedures.
  • Support development and implementation of nuclear-related laboratory capabilities as required.
  • Support business development efforts within the nuclear sector and related technical service areas.
  • Assist with proposals, client engagement, and strategic pursuits involving laboratory services.
  • Identify opportunities to expand laboratory capabilities and services to support company growth.
  • Work closely with regional leadership, laboratory managers, and technical staff to support operational alignment across locations.
  • Assist leadership in developing long-term strategies for laboratory operations and service expansion.
  • Promote communication and knowledge sharing across the laboratory network.
