Overview: The Senior Product Owner is responsible for establishing a deep product expertise both from a technical and market perspective by understanding buyer and user personas, value proposition, benefits, features and functionality, competitive landscape, architecture, code base, and technical components. This person collaborates closely with other product owners, product managers, scrum master(s), and development managers to leverage Agile processes and tools which support product requirements, sprint review, backlog refinement (grooming), sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog/ticket creation. This role will partner closely with product managers in reviewing product roadmaps and drive the prioritization of work accordingly. This role will plan, prioritize, and maintain product feature backlog and development for a product and owns and drives product release planning, backlog prioritization, and ticket review through the elaboration of user stories. This person has prior experience with software-as-a-service (SAAS) distribution models.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in healthcare operations or medical billing.
  • Strong background in healthcare revenue cycle processes.
  • Experience supporting infusion therapy or oncology workflow operations.
  • Accounting literacy; certificate or coursework preferred.
  • Experience with month-end reconciliation and collaboration with finance teams.
  • Ability to write well-structured user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical/operational documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specialty pharmacy workflows or buy-and-bill models.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in product analysis or product ownership for healthcare organization
  • Knowledge of prior authorization workflows for infusion therapies.
  • Familiarity with EHRs, billing systems, or healthcare platforms.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools (SQL, Tableau, Power BI preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for product areas involving medical billing, infusion therapy workflows, oncology services, and chronic care programs.
  • Gather stakeholder input—from clinical, billing, and finance teams—to define user needs and product requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a prioritized product backlog using data-driven methodologies.
  • Write clear and actionable user stories, acceptance criteria, and workflow diagrams.
  • Contribute to product roadmap planning, release scoping, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Translate complex revenue cycle processes (coding, charge capture, claims, denials, payment posting) into product features.
  • Break down infusion- and oncology-specific workflows, including necessary payer and billing logic.
  • Identify system gaps, pain points, and opportunities for automation or process improvement.
  • Create documentation including business requirements, product specs, and operational workflows.
  • Work closely with engineering, UX, billing operations, clinical teams, and finance to ensure clarity and alignment.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, grooming, and review sessions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to engineers and designers to ensure functional accuracy.
  • Partner with QA teams to ensure coverage of real-world billing and infusion workflows.
  • Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) with operational and financial stakeholders.
  • Ensure product alignment with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, payer billing rules, infusion/oncology requirements).
  • Apply accounting literacy to evaluate financial reporting needs and month-end processes.
  • Support reconciliation workflows as they relate to billing, payment accuracy, and revenue integrity.
  • Utilize understanding of infusion therapy and oncology billing to guide product decisions that affect financial outcomes.
