Senior Product Manager

Atlantic MediaWashington, DC
$115,000 - $175,000

About The Position

We're looking for a Senior Product Manager who's creative, driven, and genuinely excited about journalism. Someone who sees technology as a way to get great ideas in front of more people - and who wants to help shape how The Atlantic reaches readers in a changing media landscape. You'll work on products that matter: our Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism deserves a reading experience that lives up to it. The right person for this role is a sharp problem solver and an opportunity finder who shows up with ideas and perspective. . They move fast, try things, learn from what doesn't work, and keep going. You'll report to the Product Executive Director and work closely with editorial, design, engineering, and data science. It's a collaborative team that cares deeply about the work — and we're looking for someone who does too.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in product management, preferably at a media, subscription, or consumer tech company.
  • A history of shipping products people actually use — from early idea through launch.
  • Experience running A/B tests and building experimentation into how your team works.
  • Comfortable making progress with engineers — you understand the tradeoffs even if you're not writing the code.
  • Familiar with AI and how it can be applied to editorial products and reader experiences.
  • Has presented strategy to senior leaders and knows how to make a case for a point of view.
  • Self-starter. You don't wait to be told what to build — you identify the opportunity and go.
  • Cares about journalism and its impact on the world. Not in a résumé way — in a real way.
  • Resourceful and inventive. You can identify unmet needs, craft practical strategies, and imagine experiences that don't exist yet, all while building excitement.
  • Loves to experiment. Comfortable being wrong, learning fast, and trying again.
  • Can build a quick prototype or rough mock to test an idea before committing to building the real thing.
  • Strong with data analysis and identifying insights, while equally good at listening to what readers are actually saying.
  • Wants to create positive change through the products you build and the way you work with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in or alongside a newsroom.
  • Background in subscription growth, retention, or lifecycle marketing strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the product roadmap for how readers experience The Atlantic — across web, mobile, and email — with a focus on building innovative editorial experiences that reach broader audiences in new ways.
  • Lead mobile-first development across iOS and Android, treating the app as a primary home for our journalism, not a secondary surface.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to ship interactive experiences that bring stories to life — immersive formats, reader tools, and new ways of engaging with ideas.
  • Run experiments constantly. Use what you learn to prioritize what gets built next and clearly explain the reasoning to the team.
  • Track the metrics that matter, communicate what they mean, and use them to make smarter product decisions.
  • Write clear, thorough product specs that give engineering and design what they need to do their best work.
  • Build substantive and productive relationships across editorial, engineering, design, marketing, and audience research — and keep everyone moving in the same direction.
