About The Position

As a Senior Product Manager for Custom SoCs, you will be the strategic lead for bespoke silicon solutions tailored for world-leading datacenter customers. In this role, you will collaborate with customers to co-define architectures that meet unique workload requirements. You will balance customer-specific needs (Custom IP, unique PPA targets) with internal technology capabilities to ensure the delivery of optimized, first-time-right silicon. Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work Policy. Reports to: Team leader/Head of Custom SoC Solutions Team. Job ID: 42809

Requirements

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field with 10+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience.
  • Custom Silicon (ASIC) Expertise: 7+ years in the semiconductor industry with a proven track record in ASIC/Custom SoC product management or technical account management.
  • Architectural Depth: Comprehensive understanding of SoC subsystem architecture, including ARM/RISC-V cores, high-performance fabrics, HBM3e/DDR5 controllers, and PCIe Gen6/CXL 3.0+ interconnects.
  • Hyperscale Ecosystem Knowledge: Deep familiarity with how Tier-1 Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) evaluate custom silicon, with a focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), specialized AI hardware acceleration, and system-level integration.
  • Consultative Problem Solving: Ability to act as a technical advisor, helping customers navigate trade-offs in power, area, and manufacturing complexity
  • Collaboration & Influence: Experience managing complex business relationships, balancing customer requirements with internal engineering capacity and timelines.
  • Strategic Ownership: Technical proficiency combined with the business acumen to manage high-value accounts and foster long-term partnership health.

Responsibilities

  • Customer-Centric Product Definition: Facilitate the technical discovery phase with hyperscalers to define custom SoC specifications. Translate AI/HPC workload requirements into hardware features, optimized memory subsystems, and specialized accelerators.
  • Co-Development Management: Serve as the primary business and technical interface during the co-design process. Manage the scope of "Custom vs. Standard" IP blocks to maximize performance while mitigating execution risk.
  • Business Model & NRE Ownership: Develop and manage the business case for custom projects, including NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) structures, development timelines, and unit pricing strategies based on volume commitments.
  • Customization Roadmap: Identify common trends across custom requests to influence the "Foundation IP" roadmap, ensuring critical building blocks (e.g., high-speed SerDes, Chiplet fabrics) are ready for future designs.
  • Project Lifecycle Oversight: Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Architecture, Design, Supply Chain) to ensure custom silicon meets critical milestones—including Tape-out, First Silicon, and Production Ramp—aligned with the customer’s deployment schedule.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Negotiate trade-offs between customer-requested features and internal resource availability to ensure projects remain profitable and technically viable.
