We’re looking for a Senior Metrology Technician to join our Fremont, CA team to assist in developing metrology processes and test methods for inspection of medical devices manufactured in a facility that is registered to ISO 13485, and in some scope accredited to ISO 17025. As a uniquely qualified candidate, you will: Work as part of Confluent’s multifunctional product development team responsible for development, optimization, and validation of medical device production processes. Develop and validate the optimal measurement process for variable, attribute, and functional testing. Perform metrology on precision medical devices and components using precision metrology tools such as CMM, OMM, and mechanical inspection equipment/gages. Program dimensional inspection routines with automated optical inspection tools, e.g. MicroVu. Design, develop, and review metrology fixtures, tools and software. Work closely with product development, new product introduction, and manufacturing engineers to support new and existing metrology processes. Handle metrology equipment PM, calibration, and general laboratory auditing and maintenance. Possess competency in reading and understanding mechanical dimensioning, tolerancing, and engineering specifications. Create documentation including work instructions, test method validation reports, inspection plans, and technical memorandums. Demonstrate best practices in precision metrology techniques. Demonstrate an understanding of relevant standards and calibration requirements. Relevant standards include but not limited to ISO 13485, ISO 17025, ANSI/NCZL Z540-1, -2, -3, and NCSL best practices. Train PD/NPI/Manufacturing Operators and Technicians on metrology processes and best practices. Work in a matrix organization and contribute to multiple projects and meet timelines. Demonstrate a sense of ownership for work with proven leadership qualities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Certification or Associates degree a plus.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of direct experience and training in metrology or similar photonics field or quality.
  • Formal or on-the-job training on MicroVu or similar metrology equipment.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to read and write technical documentation.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills and understanding of basic math and geometry.
  • Strong understanding of measurement concepts and ability to interpret engineering drawings per ASME and ISO standards.
  • GD&T experience is desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills with regards to data collection and basic analysis.
  • Ability to perform visual inspection of vascular devices and metrology tooling.
  • Proficiency in programming optical or coordinate (CMM) metrology systems preferred.
