About The Position

Serve as Process Engineer within the AbbVie Technical Operations Function at the North Chicago Manufacturing site. Resolve issues associated with commercial API products and processes, including introduction of new products to the North Chicago site. Provides technical support to cross-functional teams within and outside of the site during development, commercial launch or problem solving for a given API. Accountable for test results, project reports and experiments in support of process development, validation activities and Technical Transfers while maintaining and meeting the highest standards in quality, customer service and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, science or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. Additional post-graduate education may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
  • Has demonstrated competency within a discipline.
  • Possesses a working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
  • Pharmaceutical experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and integrates relevant engineering advances for improving or solving problems
  • Understands the business implications of assigned products and processes and identifies engineering solutions compatible with business needs.
  • Designs and executes experiments to test hypothesis related to project outcomes.
  • Applies scientific knowledge to projects; determines priorities for experiments.
  • Independently designs and executes experiments.
  • Assures experimental quality through sound, independent, experimental design.
  • Mentors less experience engineers and provides technical direction and feedback to others.
  • May supervise interns and/or EPDP engineers.
  • Present results of projects, both, internally and externally.
  • Participates in project planning, process update; contribute to experimental design.
  • Develops productive collaborations and communications across functions.
  • Responsible for timely project completion.
  • Designs experiments and documentation independently.
  • May act as lead engineer, project leader, or project contributor.
