Your Opportunity Stantec's growing Industrial Water practice is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Engineer with industrial process, application, and operations experience to join our team in our Austin, TX office. The candidate will lead project proposal and delivery processes throughout the US and Canada with focus within the following markets: Advanced Manufacturing, Chemical Processing Industry, Datacenters, and Pharma. The role of the Senior Process Engineer is to productively network with a wide array of engineering, environmental, water, and wastewater professionals on both technical project delivery and related business development initiatives, as well as lead process evaluation and multidisciplinary design efforts across all phases of the project lifecycle. Candidate should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project, and will perform or supervise and review a variety of tasks which may include calculations, design sketches and concepts, report preparation and field work. Project Management skills include, client management, engineering disciplines technical scope of work management, financial and schedule tracking as well as development of related interim plans to address challenges. Projects assigned may be broad, varied, and diverse in scope. You will analyze proposed projects to ensure safety, reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Business development/application activities ranges from intentional listening to client needs and identifying related solution opportunities to high level business strategies and implementation planning. All Stantec industrial water project managers perform as seller-doers, routinely developing detailed proposals for a wide variety of project settings. The candidate will work collaboratively with other Stantec business lines in client development to strengthen client relationships that are beneficial to Stantec and find new opportunities with these clients; support sales for procurement on strategic opportunities; provide proposal management; support clients by leading project development and Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) efforts; and support the growth of our Industrial Water practice throughout North America.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 25 years of total experience with experience in the industrial market a plus.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in an operations setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform business development/application tasks and collaborate with staff to increase project wins and develop long-lasting client relationships. Routine tasks include:
  • Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals.
  • Client facing interactions for business development contacts, meetings, project scoping and presentations.
  • Scope of work development and labor hours estimates
  • Division of responsibility (DOR) matrices
  • Collaboration with multiple business lines to develop opportunities.
  • Quality reviews
  • Design basis documents
  • Engineering calculations including mass and energy balances.
  • Review of regulatory requirements
  • Engineering documents, specifications, and drawings
  • Review and evaluation of technology-based solutions
  • Engineering reports
  • Feasibility studies
  • Development of opinions of probable cost (OPC) for both capital costs and operations & maintenance (O&M) costs
  • Presentations to clients, regulatory agencies and/or project stakeholders
  • Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned water, power and industrial process and wastewater-related projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines. Routine technical tasks include:
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Develop and manage the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects and facilitates independent technical review projects by others.
  • Reviews contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to Contract Documents and industry standards.
  • Assist in the development and updates of project design standards and guidelines; prepares abstracts and technical papers.
  • Mentor and supervise staff and support the development of a high-performing project teams.
  • Assist with business development pursuits including proposal preparation and participation in interviews.
  • Interact with clients and management regarding status of project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Apply and share experience/knowledge of design expertise.
  • Lead and manage preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects.
  • Ensure that projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Team management of design professionals is not an immediate expectation but may become a need.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
