The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. Hardware Engineering’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical and electrical design, development, and integration of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. The UES department is looking for a full-time Senior Principal Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in electrical design, build and test of acoustic sensors. This role will be on-site and located in Portsmouth, RI. What You Will Do At this grade level, you will be expected to work autonomously, have expert or mastery level knowledge within electrical engineering, and exercise strategic vision to influence the functional and organizational strategies of the UES department beyond assigned program work. The UES department provides a strong technical learning environment across a set of projects and program areas. UES electrical engineers are provided with the opportunity for direct access to subject matter experts, fostering accelerated technical growth. Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with magnetic design (transformers, inductors, filters) and optimization.
  • Experience with power supply design and simulation (Simetrix, spice modeling) for low power and high-power systems.
  • Experience with analog circuit design expertise for feedback systems, noise reduction, modeling/simulation vs bench testing comparisons, grounding and EMI knowledge for ship and submarine systems
  • Experience with bench testing and validating new CCA designs, troubleshooting existing designs, detailed waveform analysis and CCA component analysis/stress validation testing.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage execution and prioritization of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication skillset with ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences
  • Experience leading and growing / developing teams.
  • Experience working with customers to develop / negotiate SOW requirements and scope.
  • Proven ability to interface with customers and lead programmatic and technical discussions to closure.
  • Experience writing technical proposals and supporting new business capture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex electrical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for undersea acoustic sensors in accordance with system requirements.
  • Routinely present technical and programmatic content to our customers
  • Participate in business development by supporting the development of proposal cost and technical volumes
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
