Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience preferred
  • Applied Epic and insurance accounting knowledge preferred
  • Proficient in general ledger systems; strong understanding of accrual accounting and month-end close
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Solid understanding of accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures within financial services; familiarity with HIPAA is a plus
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ownership and follow-through; able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to commute to the Deerfield, IL office at least twice per month

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily premium accounting operations within the Agency Management System, including billing, commissions, premium finance, A/R and A/P management, aging reviews, and carrier/broker payments
  • Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, balance sheet and bank reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and financial statement analysis
  • Manage month-end close and core accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany transactions, GAAP compliance, and financial analysis
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with US GAAP, company policies, and financial services regulations
  • Review invoices and premium-related transactions for proper documentation, coding, and approval before processing
  • Prepare and manage correspondence related to disputes, revisions, overpayments, exceptions, and agency bill audits; respond promptly to internal inquiries
  • Support financial reporting and operations through audits, integrations of acquired firms, process improvements, special projects, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Collaborate with corporate finance on audit requests, special projects, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in premium and general accounting workflows
