About The Position
HuffPost, a subsidiary of BuzzFeed, Inc., is an essential destination for news, politics, and other stories, trusted by millions for fierce, independent journalism. The company is seeking an energetic, scoop-hungry reporter to cover American politics, specifically focusing on the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential race. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of breaking news and building sources on a competitive beat, along with the ability to write breaking news stories on deadline and informative features. This role requires a focus on understanding decision-makers and an eye for both the serious and unusual aspects of politics. While there is a strong preference for candidates based in Washington, D.C., exceptional applicants from other locations will be considered.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of political reporting experience, with a proven track record of getting scoops
- Extensive sourcing in national politics
- The demonstrated ability to write cleanly on deadline
- Strong news judgment, intellectual curiosity and extensive knowledge of politics and campaigns
Responsibilities
- Break news on the Hill, in the White House, or on the campaign trail
- Write deeply reported stories on topics driving political discussion
- Be willing to appear on TV, radio, podcasts, and social media to promote your work
- Be willing to travel extensively to cover elections
- Collaborate extensively with the politics team and other teams in the newsroom
- Share knowledge with colleagues through presentations or training
- Screen and interview job candidates
- Take part in recruitment or networking events on behalf of the company
- Be part of a union
