Job Description: PLANNER, SENIOR Independently apply intensive and diverse knowledge of planning principles and practices in broad areas of assignment on a large project, or on several smaller projects or studies. Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of planning work for a number of large and important projects. Specific Responsibilities - Performs various assignments requiring conventional planning expertise, but typically include complexities such as conflicting planning requirements and/or difficult coordination requirements. Gathers, compiles, and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors. - Develops recommendations based on governmental measures affecting land use, public utilities, community facilities, housing, and transportation. - Prepares, coordinates, and facilitates public involvement and consensus-building meetings and workshops. - Oversees work assignments of technicians and/or lower-level Planners. - Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. Skills and Competencies - Thorough knowledge of urban/environmental planning practices and procedures. - Proficiency in utilizing PC and various software packages typically used in urban/environmental planning assignments. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Thorough understanding of local statutes and environmental rules and regulations. Education and Typical Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Urban/Environmental Planning or related field - 5+ years of related work experience. Licenses and Certifications - American Institute of Certified Planners Certification is preferred at this level or other related certifications.
