About The Position

This Senior Physician position works within the Department of Health in Duval County to provide medical services in the area of Disease Control in the Comprehensive Care Clinic and Mobile Medical Unit providing coverage for HIV and STI care . Serves as a consultant for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in the Disease control division. All of the following duties require accuracy, safety, positive customer and team interactions, and adherence to protocol, polices, and procedures at all times. This position reports directly to the Medical Executive Director. Duties will include but are not limited to: Public Health Competency Domain 1: Analytical/Assessment skills Public Health Competency Domain 2: Policy development/Program planning skills Public Health Competency Domain 3: Communication skills Public Health Competency Domain 4: Cultural Competency skills Public Health Competency Domain 5: Community Dimensions of Practice skills Public Health Competency Domain 6: Public Health Sciences skills Performs histories, physicals, and evaluates risk factors within the standards of accepted medical practice and protocols. This is done with cultural competence and in consultation with a physician if required by job title and as needed. Performs and/or orders labs, diagnostic procedures, and makes appropriate referrals as necessary. Analyzes data and uses problem solving skills while working within a team environment. Mains patients’ records and ensures timely entry of each encounter in the electronic health record. Provides guidance regarding appropriate community resources. Provides HIV and STI services to males and females as indicated. Provides family planning services as indicated. Provides primary and specialty care services to patients who seek care at the Comprehensive Care Center including the mobile medical unit. Provides Pre-Exposure and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis, as well as any preventative services. Provides Test and Treat services. Provides comprehensive health assessment of client’s physical, psychosocial, and environmental status in order to develop, implement, monitor, and modify a plan of care.  Public Health Competency Domain 7: Management skills Public Health Competency Domain 8: Leadership and Systems Thinking skills  Positively collaborates with management team, other physicians, clinical associates, nurses, and other clinical and clerical support staff to develop, maintain, and provide an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care management. Takes initiative to listen and understand the views of others. Provides consultation to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates as needed. Participates in Quality Assurance and Improvement initiatives. Provides supervision of clinical staff, medical students, interns/residents, and/or other healthcare professional students. Attends medical and administrative meetings. Assists with coverage for any DOH-Duval clinic site as needed. Prepares and facilitates presentations as requested.  Assists with staff training. Conducts chart reviews.  Implements clinical guidelines and protocols along with updates or revisions when needed. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge: Computer – Basic knowledge of commonly used software, such as Microsoft Outlook and Word.

  • Active and in good standing license as a Doctor of Medicine (MD)/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).  A Physician candidate is a clinician that currently holds, or is eligible for, a Florida medical license (Chapters 458 or 459, Florida Statutes).

  • A preferred candidate has at least six months of providing care to patients with communicable diseases such as HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
