About The Position

The Senior Photographer brings Syracuse University to life through compelling imagery. Based on the needs of the project, the photographer will use their artistic and technical skills to create images. Sr. Photographer partners with creative, marketing, digital and content strategy teams to advance business objectives by use of photography. Conceptualizes and captures imagery to be used as the centerpiece of significant marketing campaigns and initiatives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years' experience delivering high-production-value, high-concept work in fast-paced professional environments.
  • Track-record of producing high-end imagery for use across the marketing spectrum.
  • Portfolio showing variety of work including studio, set and candid imagery.
  • Track record and understanding of marketing and brand stewardship best practices and guidelines. Excellence in post-production and photo-editing.
  • Excellence in shot composition, including lighting, both studio and use of natural light.
  • Demonstration of current understanding of marketing trends and effect on photographic style.
  • Significant experience and technical understanding shooting, editing and archiving systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally) with leadership, supervisors, and colleagues.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, manage stress and be solution oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to oversee and execute multiple projects simultaneously w/changing priorities. Proactive and takes initiative.
  • Functions effectively (independently/or as a member of a team) with a willingness to assist with routine/last-minute projects.
  • Demonstrates creativity for variety of topics, platforms (digital/social) and audiences. Working knowledge of asset management systems, MSOffice.
  • Close visual acuity.
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Frequently moves equipment (25-50 lbs.) to various sites; lift, set up and break down photography equipment. Shoots may require flexibility and to position oneself for 4-8 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Plays critical role in bringing the Syracuse University brand to life effectively and consistently though compelling imagery. Conceptualizes and captures imagery to be used as the centerpiece of significant marketing campaigns and initiatives. Attends events on campus and captures images for use in marketing materials and on owned digital channels.
  • Partners with marketing, digital and content strategy teams to advance business objectives by use of photography. Uses marketing best practices to capture images that are oriented to galvanize target audiences.
  • Works in partnership with Executive Creative & Multimedia Directors to bring creative vision to life through effective lighting, art direction and composition. Plays art director role on key shoots.
  • Translates marketing concepts into compelling and effective imagery. Captures versatile imagery that is oriented toward use and is appropriate in a variety of media including digital. Follows photography brand style guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
