About The Position

Ryder Scott Company is seeking a Senior Petroleum/Reservoir Engineer to join our Houston team. In this role, you will work as part of our technical staff on a diverse range of domestic and international projects, with opportunities to take on greater responsibilities and advance your career in a collaborative, high‑performance environment. As an integral member of our team, the Senior Reservoir Engineer will work closely with clients year-round—responding to inquiries, preparing high-quality deliverables, and collaborating across departments to support reserves audits, evaluations, and certifications. In today’s environment, there is an increasing need to develop and integrate advanced data analytics tools that enable timely, well-informed decision-making. By combining strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a solid grasp of our workflow methodology, the Senior Reservoir Engineer will have a significant opportunity to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Ryder Scott’s project teams on a daily basis. This position is based in our downtown Houston office, with the potential to work remotely up to two days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5-10 years of Oil & Gas upstream experience within an operating company.
  • Sound understanding of classical reservoir engineering principles, forecasting, reserves estimation and classification, fluid and rock characterization
  • Functional understanding of geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and reservoir characterization issues and how they relate to reservoir performance
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Data science experiences: Spotfire, relational DBs
  • Strong communication, presentation, writing and organization skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of proactively driving continuous improvement
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing) due to customer interaction
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excels in organization, time management, prioritization, and planning, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines for both self and team
  • Collaborates effectively within multidisciplinary teams, fostering strong interpersonal communication and teamwork
  • 10 - 20 years experience as a Reservoir Engineer
  • Demonstrates independent judgment and discretion in decision-making

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of economics, with a preference for application in oil and gas developments
  • Possess general working knowledge of drilling, completions, production operations and understanding of upstream oil and gas terminology
  • Professional Engineering license in the State of Texas is not a must, but will give you an edge.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop a strong working knowledge of client's assets and operations in both unconventional and conventional plays
  • Serve as the primary administrator for decline analysis software used in forecasting and economic evaluations, including ARIES, PHDWin, ValNav, and ComboCurve
  • Apply technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking to address a wide range of operational and analytical challenges
  • Drive the adoption of smarter business processes and advanced analytics to generate actionable insights
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and standardize data workflows through the use of macros, scripts, or other innovative tools

  • Design, implement, and maintain quality control routines to enhance data visibility, accuracy, and integrity
