Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred; experience may be considered in-lieu of degree
  • 3–7+ years of payroll tax experience in a multi‑state, high‑volume environment required
  • Experience supporting 25,000+ employees in a centralized payroll or shared services model preferred
  • Familiarity with SOX controls, audits, and payroll system implementations preferred
  • Experience with mergers, acquisitions, or large‑scale organizational changes preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations
  • Experience supporting multiple EINs and resolving payroll tax notices
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong reconciliation capabilities
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and oversee timely filing of payroll tax returns for multi‑EIN entities, including federal, state, and local filings (940/941, W‑2/W‑3, SUI, withholding, and local taxes)
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax deposits through EFTPS and state/local portals
  • Perform payroll tax reconciliations by EIN, including payroll registers, tax returns, vendor reports, and general ledger accounts
  • Manage payroll tax notices, research discrepancies, prepare agency responses, and track resolutions
  • Maintain payroll tax registrations, jurisdiction setups, and account updates for new locations, acquisitions, and organizational changes
  • Partner with payroll tax vendors and internal teams to validate filings, payments, and system configurations.
  • Support year‑end processing, including W‑2 balancing, corrections, and audit support
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll tax compliance and recommend process improvements
