The Role: The Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely processing certified payrolls (with and without prevailing wages), support payroll processing and perform other payroll/benefit related work as required. This position will report to the Payroll and Benefits Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources or Business Administration
  • 4–7 years of experience in payroll and benefits management
  • Knowledge of certified and prevailing wage
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel
  • Multi-state and multi-provincial payroll experience required
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Payworks, or similar HCM system
  • Working knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll tax and employment legislation
  • Ability to deal with difficult, sensitive and confidential information
  • Detail oriented
  • Minimal errors in time sensitive workflow
  • Excellent organizational, follow-up, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  • Ability to work as a team

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports and ensure accuracy and compliance with prevailing wage requirements.
  • Assist with process improvement.
  • Support the US/Canada payroll weekly/biweekly entry and reporting
  • Audit payroll data regularly to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Ensure compliance with all wage and hour laws, tax regulations, union agreements, and company policies
  • Crosstrain within the department to provide backup coverage
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and vendor utilization to enhance efficiency
  • Partner cross-functionally with HRIS, Accounting, and Operations to streamline data flows
  • Provide customer service to employees regarding time and attendance, benefits and payroll questions
  • Other general HR/PR functions as needed
