About The Position

York Space Systems LLC is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to join our finance team based in our Greenwood Village office. The Senior Payroll Accountant will play a key role in the monthly close process, payroll accounting, and financial reporting for a growing manufacturing organization. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to partner cross-functionally while supporting continuous process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of combined payroll and general corporate accounting experience, including at least 2–3 years focused on payroll.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, with specific experience in payroll accounting and labor cost allocation
  • Experience with ERP systems required; Oracle Fusion Cloud strongly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze large datasets and translate findings into actionable insights
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end payroll accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely reconciliation of payroll to the general ledger
  • Own payroll-related journal entries, including wages, bonuses, commissions, and accruals, with a focus on completeness and accuracy
  • Ensure integrity of labor cost reporting by reviewing and validating timecards across departments, cost centers, and job assignments
  • Manage the allocation of labor costs across direct labor (by job/project), SG&A, and R&D, ensuring alignment with financial and operational reporting requirements
  • Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts, including accrued wages, taxes, benefits, and employee reimbursements, and proactively resolve discrepancies
  • Partner with operations and department leaders to validate labor hours, overtime, and job costing accuracy, providing insights into variances and trends
  • Support and drive monthly close activities related to payroll, including reconciliations, variance analysis, and reporting deliverables
  • Contribute to headcount reporting, labor forecasting, and key operational metrics to support business planning and decision-making
  • Review employee expense reports and reconcile corporate credit card activity in accordance with company policies
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over payroll and labor reporting, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to ensure data accuracy, process alignment, and regulatory compliance
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements within ERP and payroll systems; lead or support implementation efforts
  • Demonstrate flexibility by stepping into additional accounting functions and supporting broader team needs to ensure accurate, timely, and seamless financial operations.
