About The Position

Finance-Patient Accounts department seeks a seasoned accounts receivable specialist, this position contributes to the mission of Spurwink by working independently to execute the billing and collections process in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner, maximizing the conversion of client services into paid accounts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of billing and collecting or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic billing procedures (EHR, EDI and HIPAA) is required.
  • Proficient in Medicare, Maine Care, Commercial and WC billing, reimbursement and collections.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
  • Willingness to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with personal computer spreadsheets and database packages.

Responsibilities

  • Review aging reports to determine requirements for follow up and prioritization.
  • Follow up on all outstanding outpatient accounts greater than 30 days old.
  • Identify claims processing inconsistencies and communicate findings to the Patient Accounts Manager.
  • Respond to any patient inquiries regarding claims processing.
  • Assist in the development of tracking trends and patterns of denial reasons for process improvement.
  • Assist with development and ongoing updates of Collection Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist in A/R-related matters for the year-end audit, internal QA audits or audits by third-party funding agencies.
  • Perform various other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Patient Accounts Manager, Director of Patient Accounts, or the CFO/Treasurer.
