Requirements

Graduate of a surgical technology program or equivalent
Two years of operating room experience with a working knowledge of all surgical specialties
Current American Heart Association BLS Certification

Nice To Haves

Surgical Technician certification is preferred

Responsibilities

The surgical technician functions as a cooperative team member in the Surgical Services department by demonstrating the ability to provide constant technical assistance to the surgeon within his or her scope of practice.
The surgical technician follows the current professional practice standards, rules and regulations set forth by AORN and AST.
The surgical technician must be willing to cross train and float to meet the needs of the institution.
The surgical technician specialty coordinator assumes responsibility along with the RN specialty coordinator, of a specific surgical service, i.e. neuro, ortho, ENT, urology etc, and ensures all equipment, supplies, instruments and any other items specific to the service are available and ready for surgery.
The specialty coordinator is responsible for the creating, maintenance and updating of the surgeon preference cards specific to their specialty, and assisting with the orientation and training of new staff members to their specific surgical service.
