About The Position

We have an opening for a Senior Operations Research Engineer , with expertise in energy systems simulation and management, electricity markets, capacity expansion planning, stochastic optimization, integer programming formulations strengthening, and decomposition algorithms for large-scale mathematical optimization problems. You will join research and analysis efforts in operation planning, capacity expansion planning, and operational security and reliability of energy systems, but will also support other research and analysis initiatives under investigation by the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, and/or other U.S. Government partners. You will work with experienced LLNL scientists and engineers and lead the development of new numerical methods and analysis tools that provide insights to inform near and long-term strategy and technology decisions. This position is in the Computational Engineering Division (CED), within the Engineering Directorate. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. In this position, you will Lead and support the development of mathematical optimization models for energy networks, including formulation, implementation, solution, analysis, and communication. Partner with other LLNL scientists and engineers to bring research results to practical use in LLNL Global Security programs. Work closely with other CIR program area leads in developing the CIR program research roadmap. Develop internal and external collaborations and provide input for securing funding sources to meet program goals and objectives.
