About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a Senior Occupational Safety Coordinator, specifically for the Radiation Safety Program. This role is responsible for the administration of the Radiation Safety Program for the Campus, operating under general supervision and adhering to safety regulations and institution policy. The position requires responsiveness for emergency situations during nights, weekends, and holidays. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, safety, industrial hygiene, physics, nuclear medicine or a related field with 3 years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field
  • Associates degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, safety, industrial hygiene, physics, nuclear medicine or a related field with 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field
  • Computer competency
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting items up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Maneuvering 55 gallon drums using a hand truck or drum dolly
  • Must medically qualify to wear a respirator and other protective equipment, as needed
  • Position requires frequent exposure to hazardous chemical and radioactive wastes

Nice To Haves

  • Administration experience
  • OSHA’s Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response standard (HAZWOPER) 40 Hour initial training with an 8 hours annual refresher
  • CPR/AED Certified (must be obtained within 12 months of hire, training provided by UAMS)

Responsibilities

  • Administration of the Radiation Safety Program for the Campus
  • Respond on nights, weekends and holidays for emergency response
