In this role as a highly technical Senior Network Engineer, you will lead large, complex projects involving outside plant fiber engineering to deliver integrated voice, video, and data services across TDS’s network infrastructure. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert in distributed and centralized split topologies to create a cohesive and reliable network design to be executed by our contractor partners. You will proactively drive improvements to processes and standards, while collaborating extensively with vendors. This position requires strong leadership capabilities to successfully guide TDS engineering associates, contingent workers as well as assisting with escalations, and mentoring team members. This position has the ability to work remotely in any of the 40+ States in which TDS Telecom operates. Minimal travel may be required to complete in-field verifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 6+ years experience in Voice, Data, or Video networking.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in OSP Construction and/or Engineering (fiber) OR related Utility/Municipal Construction and/or Engineering.
  • Excellent leadership, customer relations and communications skills.
  • ESRI ArcGIS, AGOL, Spatial analysis, or other GIS experience.
  • Understanding of Telecommunications industry and principals.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of NESC construction practices and engineering standards.
  • Understanding of Fiber to The Home (FTTH) design and construction techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand FTTH construction prints.
  • Able to lead diverse individuals/teams. Able to interact and work with others as part of a team and remove barriers to the team’s success.
  • Proactively identifies complex issues and is able to lead cross-functional groups to resolve. Has the knowledge and skills to escalate issues when appropriate. Possesses expert knowledge of internal processes and tools and drives changes when necessary.
  • Excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design of OSP projects in multiple locations and states.
  • Creating labor, material, and overheads project cost estimates.
  • Reviewing existing network data for impacts to builds
  • Utilize GIS tools to design network builds within a GIS platform, often partnering with other OSP Engineering (OSPE) associates.
  • Supervision of contingents who are responsible for designing projects in multiple locations and states.
  • Create and perform analysis on network designs for the OSP teams utilizing GIS tools and extensions.
  • Provide audits of OSP projects and coach consultants and/or contingents to ensure accuracy and consistency. The audits will ensure compliance with National Electrical Code standards and current TDS OSP standards.
  • Review all required reports from field personnel and contractor invoicing for accuracy. Manage projects by reviewing quality of work, clean up resolution, proper maintenance of project documentation and continual review of project progress.
  • Assist in training team members on the use, functions and tools within GIS.
  • Provides support to engineering and construction personnel by collecting and verifying data required to complete outside plant engineering and construction tasks.
  • Utilizes vendor contact in accordance with TDS contractual obligations. Understands and initiates appropriate level of vendor use.
  • Grow technical skills as they pertain to TDS's network infrastructure through a variety of mechanism including self-training, formal classes and coaching.
