About The Position

The Defense Health Agency’s Network Engineers & Specialists (NE&S) program provides enterprise and site-level LAN/WLAN/WAN sustainment, cybersecurity compliance, and modernization support across more than 137 Military Treatment Facilities and 500+ remote units worldwide, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity for mission-essential systems (e.g., MHS GENESIS, DMLSS, DBSS, EAS-IV). Personnel operate within the DHA Enterprise IT Services (EITS) multisourcing model alongside the Enterprise IT Services Integrator (EITSI), Capability Service Providers (CSPs), and Geographic Service Providers (GSPs) to maintain network performance, execute hardware refreshes, meet RMF, STIG, and IAVA requirements, and deliver high-availability services across complex CONUS and OCONUS operational environments. Supports the Defense Health Agency’s Network Modernization Branch (NMB) to deliver enterprise-level LAN/WLAN/WAN sustainment, configuration, cybersecurity, and modernization across U.S. Military Treatment Facilities under the Enterprise IT Services model. Key Personnel responsible for advanced engineering and troubleshooting of complex routing/switching; providing enterprise oversight; leading site-level specialists; ensuring compliance with RMF, STIG, and IAVA timelines; and integrating with enterprise toolsets (SolarWinds Orion, ARMIS, Ansible) to maintain performance and availability.

Requirements

  • Mastery of TCP/IP, HTTP/S, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, BIND, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, PPP, HDLC, V.35, RS-449.
  • Deep understanding of IEEE 802.1d/802.1q/802.1w/802.3/802.5/802.10/802.11/802.3u/802.3z standards.
  • Proficiency with Ethernet/Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ATM; synchronous and asynchronous communications.
  • Expert use of SolarWinds Orion, ARMIS, and Ansible; OTDR testers, cabling cert tools, and protocol analyzers.
  • OS background with Windows Server/Active Directory, UNIX, OpenVMS.
  • Enterprise firewall, VPN, and IDS/IPS configuration and hardening.
  • Experience with DoD Health IT systems (MHS GENESIS, DMLSS, DBSS, EAS-IV).
  • DoD 8140 – Network Operations Specialist (Advanced level)
  • CCNP
  • CISSP
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of directly related experience; OR completion of a certified technical/vocational program and 10 years of progressively complex, directly related experience.
  • SECRET Clearance
