About The Position

Essential Functions Serve as a senior networking expert for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the hardware networking infrastructure such as routers, switches, wireless access points, cabling, and network appliances, as well as implementing access controls, quality of service ( QOS ), internet filtering, content inspection, IDS / IPS , port-based authentication and security information event management ( SIEM ) to maintain a highly available and secure networking environment. Research, analyze, and manage the college’s LAN , WAN , wireless and internet connections to meet the changing needs of the college. Install and configure complex networking equipment and systems. Manage and support enterprise firewall hardware, software, and operating systems. Identify and independently resolve operational problems for major, mission critical organization-wide networks that have high risk/impact such as routing, switching and enterprise ISP services. Troubleshoot complex networking problems, using techniques in fault isolation, traffic analysis, packet sniffing and other network troubleshooting tools. Install, configure, and upgrade hubs, switches, routers, wireless access points, quality of service ( QOS ) software, network appliances, and security information event management ( SIEM ) software to maintain a highly available and secure networking environment. Working with other network engineers, conduct capacity assessments and planning to maintain and improve network performance and reliability that meets and exceeds the college’s business objectives. Implement network security controls that are appropriate to business needs and are consistent with security frameworks and best practices. Participate in security incident response to repel, secure, repair, restore and prevent further intrusion, damage or access to college systems or data by malicious actors. Regularly participate in security training, webinars, and meetings to stay current with the latest threats, advisories, patches, mitigations and updates to standards, frameworks and best practices. Collaborate with other networking professionals and leadership to interpret legal and policy requirements to plan and implement solutions to meet those requirements. Provide tier 2/3 support to the Technology Support Center staff and other technology teams as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned in the support of organizational goals and mission. Minimum Qualifications Coursework or training in information technology or related field. Three years of experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware networking infrastructure such as routers, switches, wireless access points, cabling, and network appliances, as well as implementing access controls, quality of service ( QOS ), and security information event management ( SIEM ) to maintain a highly available and secure networking environment.

Requirements

  • Coursework or training in information technology or related field.
  • Three years of experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware networking infrastructure such as routers, switches, wireless access points, cabling, and network appliances, as well as implementing access controls, quality of service ( QOS ), and security information event management ( SIEM ) to maintain a highly available and secure networking environment.
