About The Position

Are you interested in improving the air dominance capabilities of the United States’ preeminent tactical weapon systems? Do you enjoy solving complex problems with sophisticated modeling and simulation tools? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking a Senior Missile Modeling and Simulation Engineer to develop, characterize, and evaluate model performance of tactical air dominance weapons systems in complex simulation scenarios, including highly dynamic threat environments. You will join a hardworking team of analysts and engineers who support a wide range of Government sponsors facing exciting challenges. As a member of our team, you will develop and use high-fidelity simulation tools to conduct physics-based engagement-level analyses, while collaborating with specialists in other fields including (but not limited to): aerodynamics, guidance and controls, propulsion, radar/electrical engineering, electronic warfare, software development, systems engineering and more. As a Senior Missile Modeling and Simulation Engineer... Your primary responsibility will be to evaluate air-to-air weapon system effectiveness by developing and using an assortment of engagement-level simulation tools. You will conduct physics-based one-vs-one and one-vs-few analyses of blue missile engagements against red threat platforms. You will determine the critical limiting & enabling factors to system performance through data-driven analysis in order to evaluate potential improvements. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and improve missile modeling and engagement-level analysis capabilities. You will collaborate with the sponsor to recommend improvements to the government-owned high-performance computing (HPC) environment.

Requirements

  • Possess a BS degree in a technical field such as Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
  • Have 5+ experience in modeling and simulation of missile systems and/or aerospace systems.
  • Have knowledge and expertise working with Linux-based HPC environments and schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
  • Have strong programming skills with any of the following languages: C++, MATLAB, Python, Simulink, FORTRAN, or similar.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
