About The Position

Mainstream Engineering Corporation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design, industrialization, and manufacturing integration of advanced commercial and military products within our production facility. This role bridges product design and manufacturing execution. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring mechanical systems are robust, producible, cost-effective, and scalable from prototype through low-rate production and into full-scale manufacturing. The position requires deep technical expertise, hands-on engagement on the production floor, and strong cross-functional collaboration with R&D, quality, and operations teams. This is a high-impact role suited for an engineer who thrives in precision manufacturing environments involving complex assemblies and high-reliability systems.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, including significant manufacturing interface
  • Demonstrated leadership experience guiding engineering teams
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, rotational molding, and tube assembly fabrication
  • Experience setting up or improving production assembly lines
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) expertise
  • Proficiency with GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
  • Experience working in regulated environments (defense, aerospace, military programs preferred)
  • Familiarity with production travelers, configuration control, and traceability systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design efforts with strong emphasis on manufacturability, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Serve as the technical authority for mechanical systems transitioning from R&D into production
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to design and refine fabrication and assembly processes
  • Identify critical-to-function features and ensure proper tolerance stack-up, GD&T application, and design robustness
  • Review fabrication and assembly drawings for accuracy, producibility, and compliance
  • Develop and approve production tooling, fixturing, and assembly aids
  • Support low-volume production builds to validate mechanical performance and process capability
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions related to mechanical or manufacturing issues
  • Improve production efficiency through design optimization and process improvements
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams
  • Support scaling efforts for higher-rate production programs
