About The Position

QinetiQ US is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer, who will be responsible for the design, development, and design maintenance of military and commercial hardware products. Products include ruggedized military electronic equipment for maritime applications, robotic ground vehicles, vehicle autonomy hardware and ground robots. Acting as a technical lead supporting existing and new products, the candidate will evaluate design changes, perform design and analysis tasks, plan and oversee design tasks, review and approve design documentation. at our Franklin and Waltham, MA facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering discipline
  • 5-12 years’ experience in mechanical design in all aspects of a product lifecycle
  • Experience in all phases of design/development (concept to production)
  • Experience in processing Engineering Changes to documentation on DOD programs
  • Must have experience with metal fabrication design, electromechanical hardware design, and have an understanding of manufacturing techniques
  • Experience creating and working with formal design/development processes with an emphasis on transitioning projects from prototype development to production
  • Must be proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (PTC CREO and/or Solidworks)
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Must have experience with creation of detailed drawing and geometric tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
  • Direct technical lead experience managing design tasks
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Must have experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be able to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

  • Experience in Model Based Definition
  • Experience designing hardware for DoD Maritime programs

Responsibilities

  • Provide “hands-on” support for mechanical design and product issues related to various DOD pre-production and production programs
  • Electromechanical design, layout and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies, robotic systems and assorted military hardware
  • Participate in the formal Engineering Change process
  • Design hardware products using 3D CAD modeling tools
  • Responsible for oversight and tasking to other engineers on project designs
  • Perform design and drawing checking and approval
  • Perform system level tolerance analysis
  • Facilitate review meetings and present at all levels of formal design review meetings
  • Interface with vendors and identify sources of supply for critical fabrication items
  • Creation of detail designs and drawings for fabrication
  • Interface with customers on a project engineering level
  • Participate in cost estimation for development programs
  • Provide direction and guidance to other engineers and design staff
