About The Position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a world leader in advanced communication systems and is responsible for providing systems to all branches of the US military. The Protected Communications Systems (PCS) Hardware Department within the Collins Mission Systems organization has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The PCS Hardware Department is seeking an Senior Mechanical Engineering candidate to perform complex Interconnect solutions for satellite communication terminals used for above and below sea, mobile and stationary ground, and airborne platforms . The Senior Mechanical Engineer will perform research, design, development, documentation and support to build military and commercial interconnections for all these platforms. This will include control, fiber optic, power, and radio frequency cabling with complex environments and electrical parameters.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Creo or SolidWorks CAD design tool
  • Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing within interconnect domain, including interconnect manufacturing and field troubleshooting
  • Experience with component military specifications, standards, test specifications, QPLs and QMLs associated with connectors, coaxial cables, multi-conductor cables, interconnection cable & wire and fiber-optic cables
  • Familiarity with mechanical packaging design
  • Experience solving technically challenging problems within aggressive timelines
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • IPC-620 Certification Completion
  • Ability to travel domestic and international as needed less than 10%
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (Electrical, Mechanical), Five (5)+ years of experience in Interconnect design/manufacturing
  • ACTIVE Secret Security Clearance or HIGHER

Responsibilities

  • Use mechanical and electrical flow down to design and document cable assemblies at the chassis and system level
  • Generate Schematics/Interconnection Diagrams
  • Research and select Interconnect components – connectors, backshells, raw cable components
  • Manage parts lists using Product Data Management (PDM) System
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals
  • Represent the Mechanical Engineering organization as the prime technical contact for cable & harness interconnect design
  • Investigate supplier and manufacturing issues and create Change Notices to implement solutions
