Senior Mechanical Engineer

VEIRWoburn, MA
4h$140,000 - $155,000

About The Position

VEIR is enabling a new generation of compact, efficient, high-power, and long-distance power delivery solutions, solving bottlenecks that exist across the entire electricity value chain, from generation through to data center server racks. VEIR's low voltage superconducting solutions are enabling new power delivery architectures in the world’s largest data centers and our higher voltage solutions are poised to revolutionize the development of electricity transmission and distribution lines. VEIR is preparing for rapid growth as we seek to solve critical challenges facing data center developers, electricity generation developers, and utilities around the world. The Role VEIR is seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our System Integration & Heat Transfer team. This individual will play a critical role in delivering one of the most important subsystems of our first major commercial products: owning and leading a significant portion of the termination unit design for low-voltage and medium-voltage systems. This engineer will be responsible for a major segment of the mechanical design, driving it from concept phase through detailed design and into production.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong foundation in mechanical, structural, & thermal analysis.
  • End-to-end experience across the product development life cycle: from concept development, thru preliminary & detailed design, and into production.
  • Skilled in mechanical design via CAD, first-order structural & thermal calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for detailed analysis.
  • Familiar with industry standards like ASME 31.3 and/or BPVC, with experience designing pressure vessels or similar components.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings for external fabrication.
  • A continuous improvement mindset to innovate and optimize system designs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team mentoring.
  • Willingness to travel for short durations during product deployment phases.

Nice To Haves

  • Skilled in coding with MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical, thermal, and structural design for superconducting system components.
  • Own and lead the design, development, and testing of key components of the terminations for low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting systems, from concept through to fabrication.
  • Conduct detailed mechanical and structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess design and reliability, accounting for thermal, mechanical, and electrical interactions.
  • Define mechanical requirements and oversee qualification testing for system components, managing both in-house and external resources.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support system deployment, ensuring the integration of cryogenic thermal management systems.
  • Review design calculations, drawings, and submittals from junior engineers, mentoring and guiding them in their development.
  • Interface with vendors and manufacturers to maintain timelines and quality standards for component fabrication.

Benefits

  • Healthcare coverage with 100% employer paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Program
  • 12 Company Holidays + unmetered PTO
  • 12 Weeks 100% Paid Parental Leave for all new parents
  • Stock Options
  • Employee Assistant Program (EAP)
  • Regular teambuilding, off-sites, and lunch & learns
