How You Will Make a Difference Lead the mechanical design of systems, mechanisms, and components for custom automated machinery and tooling Develop and enforce best practices, design standards, and continuous improvement initiatives Integrate off-the-shelf and custom automation components, including robotics, actuators, sensors, and vision systems Deliver projects on schedule and within budget; coordinate progress with Project Managers and cross-functional stakeholders Generate accurate 3D CAD models and fully detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing and assembly Mentor and train junior engineers, reviewing and approving their work for accuracy and quality Support the build and commissioning of equipment, providing hands-on guidance to production teams Build and test mechanical prototypes to validate concepts prior to full-scale deployment Collaborate with controls and software teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electronic subsystems Manage external suppliers to ensure component quality, lead times, and compatibility Work closely with customers to refine requirements, align design intent, and ensure functional success Support onsite equipment deployment, installation, and troubleshooting as needed

  • Lead the mechanical design of systems, mechanisms, and components for custom automated machinery and tooling

  • Strong ability to size and specify automation peripherals, including actuators, sensors, and vision systems
  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software)
  • Mastery of engineering drawings, tolerancing, and GD&T (Y14.5M-2009)
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical components, materials, and fabrication processes (machining, welding, sheet metal)
  • Proficiency with basic controls and automation system concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience designing custom automated equipment
  • Proven ability to specify and troubleshoot pneumatic systems and components
  • Expertise in designing fixtures, jigs, and custom tooling for precision assembly or automation applications
  • BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in a mechanical design role within custom automation, machine building, or related industries
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and improving the performance of automated machinery
  • Ability to specify and integrate vision equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, and mounting systems
