Position Summary Responsible for independently assessing the risks and benefits associated with proposed commodity transactions including the impacts of imbedded optionality. Periodically analyze the trading portfolio utilizing stress testing and other risk assessment tools (e.g. VaR, PFE, CFaR). Make recommendations to management regarding the potential areas of concern and proposed risk mitigation strategies. Provide fair value assessments to support profit generating transactions of forwards, options and other products from the simple to the exotic using both fundamental and statistical methods. Performs task under tight deadlines in a high paced open trade floor environment. Essential Responsibilities Investigate and develop quantitative solutions to address new trade types and or strategies and other ad hoc analysis as required. Develop and run stress testing models for trading portfolio on a periodic basis. Analyze and report on the results Provide strategic project leadership, guidance, and expertise to and share information with Associate Analyst and Analyst. Manage project level studies and oversee work of other analysts. Conduct fundamental research within various markets and/or trading locations and develop models to assess the impact of changing market dynamics. Provide oversight and direction on the development and maintenance of the volatility surface for various commodities and markets. Perform regional transmission constrained production cost modeling analyses to independently evaluate the economic impact of changes to energy markets, generation assets, transmission assets and environmental regulations. Provide oversight and direction on the development and production of the commodity price forecast Interface with accounting, trade floor, compliance and other commodity management groups to provide information related to transactions and valuations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative discipline such as engineering, mathematics, physics, quantitative analysis, finance, economics or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in quantitative risk and/or market analysis in the commodity industry, trading and finance or other equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of energy trading terminology, commodity markets and the analytical and statistical methods required to evaluate those markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop predictive models using econometrics and other statistical techniques.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office along with programming, data management and evaluation including Excel VBA; SAS, Python, c++ or other statistical language strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving small teams.
  • Analytical understanding of the nature of information, making a thorough evaluation and recommending appropriate courses of action.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation and written skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience with utility industry production cost modeling software such as Dayzer or equivalent is preferred.
