About The Position

The Senior Manager, State Regulatory Affairs advances AGA’s state-level advocacy by engaging with state regulatory commissioners and staff, state policymakers, and key stakeholder organizations such as NARUC, NASEO, and NASUCA. This role is responsible for managing relationships, tracking and analyzing state regulatory proceedings, and developing strategies and materials to support AGA’s regulatory policy priorities.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of legislative, regulatory, or lobbying experience.
  • An understanding of regulated utilities and the regulatory process.
  • Political acumen and a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and flexibility.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or equivalent life experience required.
  • Approximately 50% domestic travel is required as is the ability to work non-traditional hours when needed.

  • Contacts and relationships within state regulatory commissions, organizations, and/or previous commission experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in national and regional regulatory and other state energy-related meetings.
  • Serve as primary contact and facilitator of AGA Rates School programming.
  • Provide planning support for AGA State Affairs Committee meetings, NARUC meetings and other association events.
  • Identify, track and analyze state regulatory proceedings, orders, legislation, and other relevant state policies.
  • Develop and manage relationships between AGA and state regulatory commissioners and staff.
  • Provide support for state regulatory proceedings based on AGA member directives.
  • In collaboration with team, prepare materials needed to effectively advocate AGA’s policy positions at the state level.
  • Conduct research and develop and promote state regulatory educational resources for AGA members and stakeholders.
  • Develop, update, and maintain AGA issue-area compendiums on relevant state issues and priorities.
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of regulatory and legislative program content for the AGA website.
  • Manage department and inter-department research projects as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain departmental records, reports and follow-up files.
  • Support the Managing Director with the preparation, forecasting, monitoring, and tracking of the relevant aspects of the Governmental Affairs & Public Policy budget.
