About The Position

As a member of Blood Cancer United’s Office of Public Policy (OPP), the Senior Manager, ate Campaigns is responsible for helping achieve successful outcomes in OPP’s state policy campaigns. Campaign success will require the Senior Manager to work closely with both the Vice President, State Government Affairs and the Executive Director, Grassroots Advocacy to support the design and implementation of state campaign plans, the integration of volunteer advocates throughout those campaign plans, and robust information-sharing across OPP colleagues. Blood Cancer United’s policy agenda includes, among other things, increasing access to Medicaid and other public health insurance programs, securing reductions in the cost burden that patients encounter when accessing cancer care, and preserving critical patient protections established by the Affordable Care Act.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience working in an organization engaged in grassroots advocacy or policymaking. An advanced degree in a relevant field may partially satisfy this requirement
  • Working knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes
  • Experience working with volunteers and across teams/departments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid understanding of in-person and digital advocacy strategies
  • Working knowledge of the major debates dominating healthcare policy today
  • Ability to work independently, thrive under pressure, and advance multiple high-level tasks simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design and delivery of state campaign materials
  • Produce and maintain state campaign collateral (e.g., lobbying one-pagers, advocate briefs) for use by OPP staff and volunteers
  • Grow OPP’s patient story database by reviewing emails, social posts, and other messages from advocates; cataloguing relevant experiences; and funneling leads to OPP’s grassroots organizers
  • Partner with Advocacy Communications colleagues to produce timely and engaging content featuring OPP’s state priorities, for use on social media and in outreach to state/regional journalists
  • Build and maintain a robust and well-organized library of all materials critical to state campaign execution
  • Help design and organize events/activities (e.g., state lobby days) that engage state lawmakers and grow their support for Blood Cancer United’s state policy agenda
  • Help design and organize events/activities (e.g., annual volunteer training summit) critical to sustaining and growing OPP volunteer engagement
  • Develop and maintain a record of lawmaker meetings conducted by volunteer advocates, working with colleagues to ensure any necessary meeting follow-up is timely and thorough
  • Manage volunteer advocate profiles on LLS’s volunteer management platform
  • Produce regular reports summarizing and synthesizing OPP’s state legislative activity, for use with key internal audiences including staff leaders, board committees, and trustees
  • Collect and compile data regarding state lobbying activities, for annual filing with the IRS
  • Monitor OPP’s public-facing email inbox; respond to and/or redirect inquiries as appropriate
  • Order office supplies when needed, serve as point of contact for building management, and help coordinate occasional in-person meetings
  • When issues arise with office tech (e.g., video conferencing technology, Internet access), troubleshoot with the national IT team
