About The Position

VIZIO is seeking a seasoned Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead and see to the professional growth of a talented Kubernetes Platform Engineering team. This role is responsible for managing our platform as a product that enables our engineering organization to build, deploy, and scale applications with speed and confidence. This includes driving and prioritizing the technical strategy and roadmap by balancing business requirements, engineering excellence, stakeholder needs, and customer experience. This role also involves cultivating strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, gathering feedback and feature requests from platform tenants, and actively marketing the platform to drive adoption and ensure satisfaction. Own the next-generation container orchestration platform that meets the ambitious goals of Walmart and the specific needs of VIZIO, with a multi-cloud Kubernetes-based solution centered on modern best practices and automation, allowing maintainability, performance, reliability, resilience, observability, and security at scale. You'll be working with talented and dedicated Kubernetes experts bringing forth the platform that will support the millions of TVs projected to join our fleet in the years to come, and positioning them in the vanguard of the platform-as-a-product movement, which emphasizes engagement with Engineers as customers, to understanding their needs, and in turn, drive the platform's direction and growth.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in leading platform or infrastructure teams
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native technologies
  • Experience acting as a product owner for internal developer platforms or infrastructure projects
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and inspire stakeholders across an engineering organization
  • Ability to think strategically about the role of platforms in enabling engineering productivity
  • Successfully drove adoption of internal platform and services in an engineering organization
  • Proven experience in influencing technology roadmaps, aligning competing proposals, with bias towards action and deliverables
  • Experience with large scale operations, and building scalable, performant, reliable and resilient solutions
  • Proficiency in project management, prioritizing requirements, and guiding teams through agile methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform engineers, foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning, and instill a drive to consistently deliver value
  • Be a Product Owner: Balance technical priorities with customer needs, align the roadmap with company strategy and customer requirements, build strong relationships with teams to ensure their satisfaction, gather feedback and translate them into features, and market the platform to increase adoption
  • Partner with architects and engineers to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency of the platform, and gently guide engineering towards good standards and recommended practices
  • Oversee operational excellence and timely delivery of platform features
  • Collaborate with product, security, and infrastructure teams
  • Communicate priorities and progress to stakeholders and leadership
