About The Team As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the GMNS Product team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide. We are driving a strategic, multi-year Enterprise Payments program to bring all payments together into a center of excellence to drive operational excellence for payment execution, enable innovative payment products, services, and capabilities to be built effectively and efficiently, support our BU strategies more closely, and deliver on our customers’ evolving payment needs. About the Role The GMNS Product organization has been building a program to drive more efficiency and productivity to how we develop, deliver and deploy products and capabilities. This newly created role of Sr. Manager, Product & Business Operations is an exciting opportunity to lead and contribute to creating quality & control processes across GMNS Product to drive better risk management strategies. These processes will bring best practices and connect the dots across the organization with an aim of ensuring we “Do It the Right Way” through risk control that is integrated in our product development and management strategies and day-to-day work. The incumbent will be an integral contributor to design and implement processes for stronger risk management across key activities and programs across GMNS Product, in conjunction with Control Management & GMNS stakeholders. The successful candidate will lead and drive outcomes for improving product risk management across GMNS Product. This role is ideal for someone with a consultative & problem-solving mindset - one who can manage projects simultaneously, establish collaborative partnerships, drive consistency, analysis, report trends, understand and implement processes whilst immersing themselves in the complexity of the business and its varied interactions with the wider Blue Box. How will you make an impact in this role? The role will be based in New York, U.S. and focus on following objectives:

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability for strategic/white space thinking – can identify gaps, anticipate risks, and design process-based solutions without detailed instructions.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability with the ability to work across a large organization/team, prioritize effectively and drive initiatives to completion.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and/or data to actionable insights.
  • Knowledge of operational risk concepts and programs.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with ability to influence across all levels and to develop relationships with leaders, peers, and control and compliance teams.
  • Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and collaborate across stakeholders to build alignment, followership, and advocacy.
  • Lead Policy and Process Operationalization: Guide the end-to-end process of operationalizing key policies and control frameworks within GMNS Product, understanding how they relate to Product Management & Development to ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities, and accountability.
  • Design and Implement Programs: Develop and execute programs across GMNS Product to support Project Guardian workstreams, supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure Quality and Effectiveness: Establish and maintain strong quality control and monitoring frameworks to track progress, drive timely resolution, and sustain improvements.
  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions: Analyze trends and partner with cross-functional teams to strengthen risk management while reducing recurring challenges.
  • Provide Strategic Insights: Deliver oversight, reporting, and insights on key metrics, trends, and emerging risks to senior leaders to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Promote Consistency and Alignment: Ensure policies, procedures, and controls related to risk management are consistently implemented, tested, and aligned with enterprise-wide frameworks, across GMNS Product.
  • Optimize Ways of Working: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline workflows for key risk management initiatives across GMNS Product, eliminate bottlenecks, and scale processes to support effective product development and delivery.
