Position Summary : The Manager, Risk Management is responsible for managing and mitigating risks associated with patient injuries, adverse events, and professional liability claims. This role oversees the intake, investigation, evaluation, and resolution of claims arising from alleged therapist errors, clinical incidents, and patient harm. The Risk Manager works closely with legal, compliance, operations, and quality teams to reduce liability exposure, improve patient safety, and support fair and timely claim resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare, physical therapy, athletic training, risk management, business or related field required
  • 3 years’ experience administering or supporting medical malpractice claims, patient safety, or liability insurance preferred
  • General knowledge of healthcare operations and laws related to patient safety, adverse event reporting, and liability exposure
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills; ability to engage with all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and exercise independent judgement on matters of significance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • Ability to fulfill office activities including, but not limited to, remain stationary for extended periods of time (i.e., while working at a desk), stoop/kneel/crouch, travel around the office, communicate with others (verbal and written), and use fine motor skills including fine hand manipulation and keyboarding.
  • Ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds
  • Travel may be required
  • Consistent with a standard office environment, noise level is low with little to no extraordinary environmental factors.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certification as Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), Professional Liability Claims specialization, or Certified Patient Safety Professional (CPPS).

Responsibilities

  • Manage claims arising from patient injuries, adverse clinical events, and allegations of malpractice or general negligence.
  • Oversee the investigation of incidents and claims, including review of medical records, interviews, timelines, and root‑cause analyses.
  • Evaluate liability exposure, damages, and settlement potential in collaboration with attorneys and carriers insurers .
  • Oversee adverse event and incident reporting related to patient injuries or near misses.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and systemic risks contributing to patient harm or claim frequency .
  • Escalate high‑risk incidents and unusual events to field and corporate leadership in accordance with policy.
  • Partner with operational and clinical leaders to develop and implement corrective action plans.
  • Translate claim findings into process improvements, staff education, and policy updates.
