About The Position

This position is responsible for leading the execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects. including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and associated infrastructure from transition out of pre-construction through construction, commissioning, and final turnover. The role provides direct leadership to Project Managers and serves as the primary execution authority responsible for cost, schedule, safety, quality, and client satisfaction. This role will require regular job site visits to ensure project remains on track for a successful turnover. Working closely with the Director – Energy and the Pre-Construction leadership, this role ensures that projects are properly mobilized, execution-ready, and delivered in alignment with contractual requirements, internal standards, and client expectations. At the Director level, the position also carries broader responsibility for execution strategy, team development, and continuous improvement across Roncelli’s Energy portfolio. This role is expected to travel up to up to 40%, including project site visits and client meetings. This position is open only to candidates who currently live and work in the state of Michigan.

Requirements

  • Skills and Knowledge Strong expertise in utility-scale renewable energy project execution (solar PV and BESS required; substations and interconnection a plus).
  • Proven leadership of Project Managers and multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Deep understanding of EPC contracts, cost controls, scheduling, change management, and claims avoidance.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels—from field teams to executive clients.
  • Proficiency with project management and controls platforms such as Procore, Primavera P6, Excel-based cost tools, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to enforce safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory compliance on large-scale construction projects
  • Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience managing and executing complex construction or EPC projects, including portfolio-level oversight, team leadership, and major client interactions.
  • Experience delivering utility-scale renewable energy projects from notice to proceed through commissioning and turnover.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30 required (or ability to complete within 30 days); CPR and First Aid preferred
  • Screening Requirements: Pre-employment and annual drug testing required; background check, including driving record check as required by client.

Responsibilities

  • Project Execution Leadership Lead the execution of renewable energy projects from pre-construction turnover through mechanical completion, commissioning, and final acceptance.
  • Provide direct oversight and leadership to Project Managers and project teams.
  • Establish execution plans aligned with contractual scope, schedule milestones, procurement strategies, and risk assumptions developed during pre-construction.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for execution challenges related to schedule, cost, quality, or client concerns.
  • Transition from Pre-Construction to Execution Partner closely with Pre-Construction leadership to ensure clean and complete project handoffs.
  • Validate budgets, schedules, execution assumptions, procurement strategies, and risk registers prior to notice to proceed.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and early alignment workshops with internal teams and clients.
  • Cost, Schedule & Risk Management Maintain overall accountability for project cost performance, forecasting, and change management.
  • Ensure project schedules are actively managed, updated, and recovered when variances occur.
  • Lead identification and mitigation of execution-phase risks.
  • Review and approve major change orders, claims strategies, and recovery plans.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management Serve as a senior client-facing leader during project execution.
  • Lead or support executive-level project meetings, progress reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, utilities, and key partners.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination Coordinate execution efforts with engineering, procurement, commissioning, quality, safety, and field operations.
  • Ensure alignment between design, construction means and methods, and commissioning requirements.
  • Support resolution of technical, constructability, and interface challenges.
  • Commissioning, Turnover & Closeout Oversee commissioning readiness and execution in coordination with commissioning leadership.
  • Ensure all mechanical completion, substantial completion, and final turnover requirements are achieved.
  • Support closeout documentation, test records, warranties, and final client acceptance.
  • Team Leadership & Development Mentor, coach, and develop Project Managers and project leadership staff.
  • Support staffing plans, performance management, and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Additional Leadership Responsibilities (Director Level) Provide strategic leadership for project execution across the Energy Group.
  • Standardize execution processes, reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Support resource planning, portfolio-level forecasting, and workload balancing.
  • Partner with executive leadership on continuous improvement, lessons learned, and operational excellence initiatives.
