Project Engineering is the art of organizing technical requirements into precise technical direction with a clear vision for the engineering teams to focus on and execute. As a Project Engineer, you are given technical authority from Engineering Leadership and the Chief Engineer to execute assigned programs. Project Engineering requires technical expertise, a willingness to make decisions to lead the project team to the required capability or delivery, and the ability to communicate internally to leadership and externally to the customer. Project Engineering is empowered to guide the program from a notional idea or customer requirement, to a delivered platform capable of executing its intended mission. As Senior Manager of Project Engineering, you will manage experienced and junior PE professionals. Often leads one or more teams or a department. Communicates within and outside of the organization to influence leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts. Develops or champions new concepts or technologies. Manages the implementation of functional strategies and recommends operational plans that directly impact the short- to mid-term function or business area results. Requires broad management and cross-functional leadership knowledge and mastery level knowledge within a specific technical area or broad expertise across multiple related job areas. Communicates with parties within and outside of the organization, which includes larger customers and vendors. Works to influence others to accept team's views or practices and agree/accept new concepts, practices, and approaches. Requires ability to communicate and influence leadership regarding matters of substantial importance to the function or business area. Frequently conducts briefings to senior leaders. Responsible for improving upon existing or establishing new processes and systems using significant conceptualization, reasoning and interpretation. Solutions are innovative and unique and draw upon best practices based on expertise. Develops or champions new concepts or technologies. Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are often complex, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple functions and/or businesses. Extensively analyzes problems to seek understanding of the root cause of the problem. Recommends operational plans and tactics that will directly impact the achievement of overall functional results. Directs the execution of tactics established by functional leadership. Establishes operational plans for job area with short- to mid-term impact on results (e.g., 1-2 years). Work requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and occasionally influences business decisions made by functional leadership.
