Position Summary: We're looking for a Senior Manager to lead our Patient Experience subdivision Product Operations team. This is a high-impact leadership position that requires equal parts strategic influence, operational rigor, and people development. You'll work directly with Patient Experience subdivision leaders to shape portfolio decisions, optimize feature delivery across the entire SDLC, and ensure your team has the capability and capacity to drive outcomes. Success means influencing how the subdivision builds and ships products, not just supporting the process. You'll need to hold your own in rooms with senior product leaders, make data-informed recommendations that change direction, and build a team that can scale with the business. About the Team: This team is part of athenahealth's industry-recognized Product Operations function - featured by Gartner and in Melissa Perri's Product Operations: How Successful Companies Build Better Product at Scale - that supports over 260 scrum teams delivering features to more than 10,000 customers. You'll partner directly with Patient Experience subdivision leadership to influence portfolio outcomes and drive feature delivery that advances athenahealth's vision of a thriving healthcare ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of professional experience in product management, product operations, program management, or related R&D roles
  • Proven track record as a people leader who drives outcomes through others and develops high-potential talent
  • Deep expertise in Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape strategic decisions in complex organizations
  • Strong systems thinking - ability to identify patterns, bottlenecks, and optimization opportunities across large-scale operations
  • Data fluency and comfort with AI productivity tools to surface insights and drive decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate complex technical and strategic concepts to diverse audiences
  • Bachelor's degree required

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Portfolio Influence Partner with Patient Experience subdivision VPs and zone leaders to shape portfolio decisions, optimize feature prioritization, and drive delivery outcomes across the subdivision's roadmap
  • Conduct monthly portfolio reviews with subdivision leadership, surfacing feature risks, tradeoffs, and data-backed insights that inform strategic direction
  • Communicate roadmap value and feature capabilities clearly to internal and external stakeholders, connecting subdivision priorities to customer outcomes at both feature and portfolio levels
  • Identify and drive SDLC process improvements that accelerate velocity and reduce friction across the product development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with Release Readiness teams (Tech Writing, Customer Marketing, Release Management, etc.) to ensure seamless feature delivery and customer enablement
  • Team Leadership & Development Build and lead a high-performing Product Operations team that delivers consultative, analytics-driven insights to product owners and zone leads
  • Conduct regular 1:1 coaching focused on growth, performance, and succession planning for high-potential team members
  • Partner with peer Senior Managers across Product Operations to maintain strategy alignment and ensure 100% coverage of all zones and top features
  • Lead team through change management initiatives with clarity and support
  • Operational Excellence & Systems Thinking Identify patterns and optimization opportunities across 280+ scrum teams to drive consistent, scalable delivery practices
  • Use data and AI productivity tools to surface insights, predict rollout friction, and recommend enablement pathways that reduce customer impact
  • Champion R&D Operating Cadence and Release Milestones across the organization, promoting best practices that drive accelerated outcomes
  • Support alpha/beta testing strategy and execution, ensuring features are validated against success criteria before release
  • Measure post-GA feature performance and provide feedback loops to product owners on outcomes
