The Wall Street Journal is seeking a senior manager to own and advance our newsroom’s audience-data strategy. Reporting to the Head of Data and AI and serving as a leader on the newsroom digital strategy team, this role defines how we measure success, identify opportunity and translate audience data into actionable insight across coverage, product and editorial strategy. You will set the direction for newsroom analytics and metrics, ensuring editors, journalists and leadership have the data-driven insights needed to support an audience-first newsroom. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will operate at both the strategic level, deciding what capabilities, tools and models the newsroom needs–and the execution level, prioritizing team workloads, reviewing analyses, troubleshooting dashboards and guiding technical implementation. The role includes shaping and building advanced data capabilities, including the use of machine learning and large language models to create informative, practical tools for newsroom decisionmaking. The ideal candidate brings experience in news media or a related field, a deep understanding of audience behavior and strong empathy for newsroom workflows. You are an organized, proactive leader who can manage teams, set clear priorities, and translate complex data into insights that drive real editorial and business impact.
