The Senior Manager - Legal Department supports the General Counsel and supervises litigation paralegals and administrative personnel within the Legal Department. The Senior Manager plays a key role in designing and implementing processes, systems, and best practices to improve the day-to-day efficiency and effectiveness of the legal team, facilitating change, and control costs. This role will manage day-to-day legal operations, with lead responsibility for litigation-related matters, including but not limited to, patient record requests, and outside legal counsel invoices.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certification or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions. Must understand business implications of decisions.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to think independently and take corrective action.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage others and establish rapport.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, adjust to sudden changes in workflow, and maintain high quality standards.

  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Legal Tracker (formerly Serengeti).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee litigation paralegals and administrative personnel, including assigning and prioritizing work, managing caseloads and workflow, and providing guidance on conflict resolution.
  • Ensures project and department deadlines, milestones, and goals are achieved.
  • Exercises full authority for day-to-day personnel actions and performance evaluations; makes recommendations regarding hiring, termination, compensation, and promotions.
  • Manage litigation matters, including day-to-day developments in pending litigation, and maintain appropriate communications with law firms and others retained to defend the Company and its employees.
  • Review and scope document production requests; identify required resources and confer with lead attorney on most efficient approach to comply within all parameters and deadlines given.
  • Oversee and assist with the creation and maintenance of case and other legal databases; collect and/or identify data for input into legal databases.
  • Assist attorneys in interviewing and preparing witnesses for depositions.
  • Partner with Accounting, IT, and other professionals to support litigation activities, including providing and updating recommended reserves for pending litigation matters, coordinating legal holds and tracking preservation responses, and managing document requests.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for internal business units, departments, and functions regarding litigation and regular, recurring legal services and support.
  • Work with the General Counsel to coordinate the provision of legal services and support, especially to the extent they are not assigned to internal or outside attorneys.
