Fastly is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Manager, Global Payroll to lead our payroll operations. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Accounting Operations, The Senior Manager will manage a team of payroll administrators, oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all US employees, and ensure compliance and seamless execution of payroll for our international countries. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with deep knowledge of multi-country payroll regulations, strong payroll accounting expertise, technical skills, and a commitment to process optimization and team development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in payroll management.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role managing direct reports.
  • Extensive experience overseeing both US multi-state and global payroll processing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll trends and service delivery models globally.
  • Experience managing and documenting payroll controls for SOX compliance.
  • Experience with global tax and pension requirements.
  • Solid understanding of equity-related transactions.
  • Expert-level knowledge of US federal and state payroll taxation, wage and hour laws, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Deep understanding of payroll accounting, GL reconciliation, and month-end close procedures.
  • Solid understanding of international payroll regulations and best practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Workday Payroll and HR, ADP SmartCompliance, ADP Celergo, NetSuite, G-Suite.
  • A proven team leader with the ability to optimally identify, develop, and manage team members to attain team/individual career goals.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external partners.
  • Excellent relationship building and business collaboration skills, demonstrating an understanding of the enterprise-wide impact of decisions.
  • Ability to manage complex projects, meet deadlines, and handle highly confidential information.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of payroll administrators, fostering a high-performance and collaborative work environment.
  • Manage workload distribution and ensure all team members are cross-trained for business continuity.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of multi-state US payroll for all salaried and hourly employees.
  • Oversee all payroll tax compliance, including quarterly and annual filings (e.g., Form 941, W-2s).
  • Manage a third-party payroll vendor for international countries, ensuring adherence to local labor laws, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee the end-to-end processing and funding of international payrolls, including complex items such as expatriate payroll, global stock options, and mobility taxation.
  • Review and post payroll-related journal entries for month-end close.
  • Review reconciliations of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
  • Ensure accurate allocation and reporting of payroll expenses by cost center and department.
  • Stay current with all federal, state, and international payroll laws and regulations.
  • Ensure all internal controls and audit requirements are met, and lead the coordination of internal and external payroll audits.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to payroll systems and processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Serve as the primary system administrator and subject matter expert for the global payroll system, partnering with HRIS on integrations and upgrades.
