The Schwab International team is a business unit dedicated to empowering investors who reside inside and outside of the United States with the tools to trade globally. International Services provides trading and service support for non-U.S. based clients who are both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens. Within International Services, the Global Governance and Risk ("GGR") team provides leadership and strategic support for policy, governance and control management, and partners closely with organizations across the three lines of defense to effectively manage risk as we help investors around the globe harness the security and prosperity of the US market. As a 1LoD Risk Management Team, GGR is responsible for the design, maintenance, and maturation of International's risk management and governance infrastructure that safeguards the Firm while enabling International's key strategic and regulatory initiatives. What You'll Do: Reporting to the Director of Global Governance & Risk - Affiliate and Product Risk Enablement (APRE), the Sr. Manager will play a critical role in supporting Schwab's International business partners as they navigate the product risk assessment process from pre-launch to post-implementation. This role requires an understanding of enterprise risk frameworks and risk management practices and will be responsible for 1LoD risk support for Schwab's International cross border and global investing business. This role will support the continued evolution of International's governance and risk programs for product risk enablement, advising on key growth and strategic initiatives. This role also requires strong risk management, governance, and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as the ability to navigate complex regulatory and business landscapes. This individual will partner closely with all levels of the International Services organization, including product and offer owners, as well as risk, compliance, and legal partners, to navigate the product governance framework that supports business growth while mitigating risks effectively.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services risk management, compliance, or a related field, including proven experience developing and implementing risk management frameworks in collaboration with legal, compliance, and risk teams.
  • Strong blend of professionalism, diplomacy, and relationship management skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and project management skills, with the ability to influence clearly and persuasively with internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Strategic thinker with strong judgment and a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance and maintain International's product risk enablement strategy and framework, facilitating the risk assessment process to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with new product launches and initiatives, as well as modifications to existing products and offers.
  • Support the broad portfolio of International's strategic and growth initiatives for cross border and global investing by providing subject matter expertise and consultative support.
  • Facilitate the process to ensure enterprise, governance and risk considerations are embedded in product lifecycle decisions and impacts to risk programs are evaluated (e.g., conflicts of interest, disclosures, policies, supervision practices, controls, etc.) in partnership with peer teams.
  • Partner with legal, risk, and compliance teams to address International cross border related legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring that efforts are collaborative and mutually supportive, enabling proactive issue resolution and shared accountability for risk outcomes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor on the product review process, guiding the product and offer teams on their pre-launch, launch and post-launch obligations. Design, develop, and create resources for International's product enablement program.
  • Serve as a "temporal broker," helping to bridge the gap between our International business and Schwab's various product offer and business unit risk teams to promote information sharing and collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain roadmaps and timelines for required approvals and governance forum appearances, driving operational and strategic excellence for committee materials.
