About The Position

The Senior Manager – Equipment is responsible for leading the equipment management function, including oversight of a team of Equipment Managers, administration of the maintenance budget, and ensuring fleet assets are effectively aligned with business needs. This role is responsible for executing comprehensive equipment maintenance, asset management, and procurement strategies that support operational efficiency, safety, and cost control. This position plays a key strategic role by providing data-driven recommendations to improve fleet performance and lifecycle management. Success will be measured through key performance indicators including equipment availability, utilization, safety performance, and total operating cost. This role is based at the Corporate Office with occasional travel to off-site locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance operations, fleet management, and/or procurement
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams in a dynamic operational environment
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and lead change management initiatives
  • Ability to evaluate complex or conflicting information and make sound business decisions
  • Experience managing multiple priorities while maintaining focus on key objectives

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Equipment Managers to ensure high performance and accountability.
  • Oversee fleet asset management, including utilization, lifecycle planning, and optimization strategies.
  • Own, monitor, and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) for equipment availability, utilization, safety, and maintenance cost, ensuring targets are consistently achieved and clearly communicated across the team.
  • Manage departmental budgets, including maintenance spend, invoicing, and cost control initiatives.
  • Review and approve repair orders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with standards.
  • Ensure compliance with preventative maintenance programs and applicable regulatory requirements (including FHWA standards, as applicable).
  • Establish and maintain standardized system-wide repair guidelines and decision frameworks.
  • Partner with Operations, Safety, and HR to support cross-functional initiatives and business priorities.
  • Manage equipment in-service and out-of-service decisions based on operational demand and asset condition.
  • Oversee both internal maintenance operations and external vendor/service provider relationships.
  • Evaluate equipment specifications and provide recommendations for procurement, replacement, and standardization
